AWARD WINNER 2013 -
PROF. DR. ZHU LING

The Foundation fiat panis, successor to the Father and Son Eiselen Foundation, awarded in 2013 the Justus von Liebig-Award for World Nutrition to the Chinese scientist, Prof. Dr. Zhu Ling, for her outstanding performance in the fight against hunger and rural poverty. The prize was endowed with 25,000 EUR and was awarded on the occasion of the World Food Day Colloquium at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart.

Prof. Zhu Ling has played a significant role in the Chinese reform process through her research. Particularly noteworthy are their outstanding and independent scientific work on rural reforms and rural incomes, rural employment and their impact on poverty reduction and food security, improving the health of mothers and children in rural areas and the status of child nutrition as an indicator of agricultural political analysis. Her extraordinary achievements in Chinese agricultural research have contributed to the improvement of food security and thus to the reduction of poverty and hunger. At the same time, she has received the highest international recognition for her extraordinary expertise as a leading member of national and international scientific advisory boards. As Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China, she shares her knowledge with students and young scientists and motivates them to work for food security and a world free from poverty.

For the award ceremony Prof. Zhu Ling returned to the starting point of her impressive career: in the mid-1980s, she became a member of the faculty of agricultural sciences at the University of Hohenheim, which has been working closely with scientists from the PR China for more than 30 years.

The independent jury decided unanimously to award the prize to Prof. Zhu Ling for her outstanding achievements in agricultural and nutritional sciences and her contribution to the improvement of world nutrition. Her previous work has put her in the service of a world free of hunger.
